The story of Re: Monster is written in a diary format. Each day starts at midnight and describes the event of the day written from the perspective of the main character, Tomokui Kanata, reincarnated as Rou.
He meets a plethora of characters and sometimes there are side stories written from the perspective of those characters about marking events.
Rou is quite lazy and hates including many details so these side stories can be quite refreshing.
The main character enters into consciousness by recalling the last moment of his past life. He was getting some beers and on the way home and met a girl who he treated as a neice. She suddenly stabbed him repeatedly and he definitely remembers dying. However, he now opens his eyes to see and an ugly green old man staring back at him and around him, he sees tiny green, ugly babies and notices that his own hands are green and tiny as well. He comes to the conclusion that he, like the old man who gives the main character the name Rou, is a Goblin. He then spent the rest of the day sleeping, as a baby should.
Reasons why Re: Monster is a Strong 8:
It’s a good story, even if the plot isn’t that grand or deep in the beginning.
The MC is not an idiot. He is a logical thinker and has a quick understanding of things in his new life as a goblin.
It contains some RPG features. so if you are into that genre, it is even more enjoyable to read.
Kanata Tomokui suffered an early death, but his adventures are far from over. He is reborn into a fantastical world of swords and magic—as a lowly goblin. Not content to let this stop him, the now renamed “Rou” uses his new physical abilities and his old memories to plow ahead in a world where consuming other creatures allows him to acquire their strengths and powers.
